All parents of students who are starting at the school on 29th August 2018 have recently received a letter regarding the transition arrangement we have put into place for your child. Below is an outline of the events.
Pre-assessments help the school establish your child’s strengths and areas for development. The results of these assessments are used in conjunction with the SAT data to make sure the teaching for your child is appropriately challenging. These will be taking place on Saturday 23rd June from 9:00am – 4:15pm. Your child must bring a set of headphones and a reading book in with them.
As your child gets older they will probably be exposed to more forms of online media. As a school we look to equip both students and parents with the knowledge they need in order to help you make appropriate choices for your child. Whilst your child is participating in their baseline assessments on Saturday 23rd June you will be invited to an e-safety talk led by a member of school staff. During this time you will also have the opportunity to speak to school uniform suppliers and you will receive your welcome pack.
Tuesday 3rd July is the taster day for all students in Bromley. All students will experience a day at their new secondary school. This will be an invaluable opportunity for your child to learn their way around their new school as well as experience secondary school style lessons. Students should bring with them a pencil case and headphones as they will be required to complete reading and spelling tests as part of the day. Students should bring either £2 to buy lunch or bring a packed lunch for the day. Students should be dressed in their Primary school uniform for the day.
Primary School Visits
Staff from Eden Park High School will be visiting your child’s Primary school to meet with their teachers and speak to your child. This will be an opportunity to view and discuss the work your child has been producing and get to know your child in greater depth.
A vital part of the transition process is for you and your child to meet their pastoral team before September. You will be contacted with a time to come in to meet your child’s pastoral team towards the end of the summer term.
This is open to all students, but places are limited so we are operating on a first come first served basis. At the event your child will build their confidence in preparation for their first day at Eden Park High School and they will become more familiar with their new surroundings. This will take place on Tuesday 21st August and Wednesday 22nd August.
Year 7 Welcome Evening
All parents are invited into the school once your child has started at Eden Park High School. At this event you will have the opportunity to see your child’s form tutor and speak with other parents and teachers of the school. You will also be able to view the work your child has being doing in school up to this point. You will be notified of the date of this event at the start of the academic year.
EPHS Christmas Concert
To celebrate the end to your child’s first term all year 7 Eden Park High School students participate in the school’s Christmas Concert. More details of this event will be released in the autumn term.
