Student Careers and Aspiration
OUR VISION IS TO PROVIDE A MEANINGFUL AND PERSONALISED PATHWAY FOR ALL OUR STUDENTS HERE AT EDEN PARK HIGH SCHOOL TO ENABLE THEM TO ACHIEVE THEIR GOALS AND ASPIRATIONS FOR THE FUTURE.
Our Careers and aspirations provision is designed to enable all students to develop employability skills and gain an insight in to career opportunities and courses for further study or training within specialist areas. This is differentiated appropriate to the age, ability and educational needs of our students.
The purpose of our careers programme is to ensure that when our students leave Eden Park High School, they are fully equipped with the knowledge and skills to be successful in which ever route they decide to take for their futures.
Understandably many young people will be uncertain of what they want to be or what they want to do for a career, therefore to help them with their decision making, we run a variety of events to help them identify the links careers have to the work they are currently doing in school such as STEM activities, career focus days, internal and external competitions, life skills workshops, college and university open events and subject specific workshops led by employers.
Before these events take place, at the very start of Year 7 our students fill in a questionnaire based on their interests and preferences via Fast Tomato which is an online careers guidance software. (See link here www.fasttomato.com ) Their results are then calculated and matched up with related careers which enables us to plan for each child individually to make their experience meaningful.
As our students move in to Ks4 and Ks5 the interventions become more personalised to ensure each student’s journey will eventually lead them towards their individual future goals and aspirations. Students learn about financial management, how to write a CV and a cover letter. They will also participate in mock interviews and develop presentational skills.
We measure our careers programme in line with the Eight Gatsby Benchmarks, please see this outlined in our Careers Education (CEIAG) policy.
